I should add that even bizarre sounding tweaks should be tested (SBT or DBT) after the jokes stop

If someone thinks they hear a difference then a test is justified.
A single blind test with something hiding the knobs would work.
No A-B volume matching would be needed.
This would take less than an hour.
The probability of false positives would be about 4% with a 12 out of 16 correct answer threshold for a positive.
But maybe more fun to make jokes about knobs than to test knobs?
