No, whether you like something or not has little to do with the recording quality (although that is not true for everyone I can tell you from knowing some people who are like that) but the SOUND quality has a lot to do with the recording quality (also the room of the performance and post recording processing). Over and over you confuse your feelings about what you like to listen to with how the recordings sound.
"Live music more often than not doesn't sound good, at least relative to my hifi listening experiences.

LOL! Try going to some good concerts for a change then. I was just at a concert in London's Barbican Center (Jan Garbarek Group) that was fantastic sounding, not to mention brilliantly performed. A month ago I was at a small Jazz club in Zurich and the sound was again a knockout. Super energy and crystal clear with a hard driving trio. Yes, AC/DC at 130db may not sound very good but who would use that as a comparator except maybe you??
"And this is so blatantly obvious sometimes I wonder how often some of these people actually listen to live music. They actually consider it the holy grail of home audio reproduction.
"
It is the ONLY real reference there is. I go to dozens of concerts a year, most either unamplified or only lightly amplified and they mostly sound better than ANY hifi I have ever heard. In december I was at a classical guitar concert, unamplified of course, and it too was brilliant. I bought a very good recording from the artist and while good, still doesn't capture the "liveness" of the live performance as well as I had hoped.
Again, try going to better concerts instead of teenager produced garage bands or 120db arena rock and you will have some idea (maybe finally) of what we are talking about. As is you are simply clueless.
