This mans argument is largely based on his assumption that finished vinyl records contain nearly crystaline vinyl molecule formations with very little randomness. I don't know whether true or not but one might come to a very different conclusion than this fellow if one were to assume a more amorphous orientation of the vinyl molecules which are pressed into place while molten.
There is also the major hand wave the author uses when transitioning his argument from conical stylus to smaller contact area type stylii. Without numbers for contact patch sizes for elliptical and line contact type stylii this hand wave is quite unsettleing.
His argument makes sense based on his assumptions but I still question the validity of those assumptions.
"Scratches do not split molecules."
I'll ask again: what evidence do you have this is true? Please don't misunderstand me, I just want to believe in the answers not jump to some conclusions using less than solid evidence. After all this is THE debate. I'm not claiming to know the answer one way or the other but only throwing out some questions to those who are in light of the less than satisfying evidence which has been presented.
