Sure any voltage level can occur with an analog waveform within the dynamic range of the signal. This levels are not distinct, or fixed, in level - ie. they aren't a fixed step, they can be any value.

Sorry but we aren't talking about sampling we are talking about the number of bits per sample.

Now I'm laughing. We are talking 10 and 11 bit DACs here. Do you think you'ld notice limitations in dynamic abilities with such a system? I think some low rez mp3 formats get down this low and IMO they sound pretty bad.
I'm not commenting whatsoever on performance or ability of Redbook CD to accurately reproduce a music signal. Far as I can tell it does pretty damn good.
