RE: "Bits of resolution"

"There are no distinct voltage levels with an analog waverform."

Really? At a point in time an analog waveform has a distinct voltage level... and ya' know, there's a whole lotta points in time and hence a whole lotta distinct voltage levels in an analog waveform.

"Of course in the digital world we smooth the digital results when converting to analog - but all levels occurring between the distinct levels are lost."

Lost? My my my it appears someone needs to do some reading up the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem!

But anyway what I find most amusing is the juxtaposition of what you have now just said against something else you said recently (here) on the topic of ignorance:

"There's plenty of 'worse' stuff over in vinyl when guys try to attribute their preference of vinyl to the audibility of the gaps between digital samples."

Perhaps they're not heaning the audibility of the gaps between digital samples, maybe they're hearing your smoothing of the digital results for the "lost" levels.

LOL

Everything matters, don't forget to tweak your placebos!
