Words to live by. Awesome! I would add that even with the more traditional quantitative measurements identifying and sometimes even "solving" EMC problems has in my experience been a game of working the deltas. IMO this is just an example of finding and utilizing another valid tool for working the problem. Using what tools are at hand, in this case ears rather than spectrum analyzer/preamp/antenna, is working smarter. This is especially true considering that in the end it IS your ears you intend to satisfy not some scope readout.
