What's wrong deciding what gear sounds best by listening to it in our own homes.
What's the objectivist position again? I should get a bunch of test gear and measure equipment performance to determine what gear I'm supposed to buy?
What the heck if someone wants to come and measure my gear in my room and put some other stuff in there and measure again that's cool with me. I'm not going to draw any conclusion whatsoever from the measurements - but if I like music through the gear they bring over better than what I've got now that's cool too.
"His most compelling argument is that by the time an audio signal has been recorded and mastered, it has (in most cases) passed through yards and yards of "inferior" cable, scores or hundreds of dreaded op-amps, stock components, and feedback loops.
If we assume that these things somehow degrade the signal, then what hope is there of restoring lost magic by massaging the last 1% of the signal chain with premium cables, wonder caps, vibration controls, stones, etc.?"
What's so compelling about this observation which seems reasonable to me. Not sure if it has anything to do with what I think about how a stereo sounds.
