Sadly, he's a little right, by the time we get the goods, they are often very damaged. But that DOESN'T mean that making things worse at our end is inaudible as clearly it isn't.

We do the best we can with what we got. The (sometimes not so) subtle problems of changing recording technology from analog to digital have been largely figured out and mostly resolved. Right now the limits are far more political than technical so having the playback end better than it needs to be is a good investment.

Don't turn to the deaf side...

PS: Not to encourage you, but I do have friends that are happy as dead pigs in the sunshine with their ipods playing compressed music through their Bose systems. It's actually regarded as a sign of good taste and consumer acumen in their appearance driven circles.
