Right. It's the 'dubious manner' that's the rub. THD is simply a measurement and the limit is clear, zero is the best. Trouble is all bets are off when it's low but not zero. Beyond some point it will usually start correlating with perception, but amplifiers that aren't broken will usually be so far below that point that it's rarely directly applicable these days.

And it's almost a mute point. Since it's so very easy to look at in-band spectra with any computer these days a new single metric can't be far behind. Or perhaps already in hand.

By the way, I sure wish that you wouldn't use Gm to mean anything other than mutual transconductance. It's most shocking that a tube guy would be so crass...
