Sadly I don't even know what a 'baffle step' is

My pal Tom parrots these terms without comprehension. It applies to (and is used as a term with) typical box speakers. Since you are more familiar with physics, you would realize that with a dipole source (like my speakers), there is equal radiation from both sides of the baffle, so the situation is not the same.
what you mean by DI
Directivity Index (JBL and Tannoy have nothing to hide like audiophile manufacturers and so will provide this sort of data)

My simple-minded take on speakers is that energy propagates in a lot of ways, some of them intentional.
All of them intentional when you know what you're doing :-).
I was interested in what happens at the corners
Depends upon corner shape and wavelength.
Did you end up perusing Geddes site? He had some great stuff on measuring loudspeakers, but sadly I think he has taken some down. I'll have to eventually scan what I have buried in storage somewhere and host it as a reference to download. These are great resources as well that I get information from (unlike audiophile magazines which are more fit for bird cage bottoms)

(publications & white papers)
I have little concern with energy prop in enclosures as most of mine are for bass frequencies only and have this huge hole with a paper thin acoustically transparent window filling it.
cheers,
AJ
Funny thing, in Audiophile circles if you can hear things others cannot, you are revered, in society, you are sent for treatment.
