It's a really good question. The measurements for the PMC GB1 are not as bad as they look. The dispersion is excellent and the frequency response is shelved down some from above 1 kHz to around 3 kHz, so it shouldn't sound harsh. The frequency response isn't notably flat but the chief defect is a peak from about 700 to a bit over 1000 Hz. The interference dip in the upper bass probably isn't very audible. The FR and dispersion measurements would be enough for me to screen it out, but it doesn't look like a bad speaker at all and I believe I heard it a few years ago--but it might have been another PMC model.
I don't know what the distortion measurements mean as far as audibility is concerned. As best I know, distortion below about 500 Hz isn't usually considered so important in speakers though some speakers do quite well. Even my monitor speakers have much lower distortion at 95 dB, for example.
One could find a speaker for about 1/3 of the cost of the PMC GB1 that measures considerably better, such as the PSB Image T45, though its impedance drops somewhat lower in the bass.
