This is in fact a nonsense sentence. The assumption has nothing to do with how the DBT is conducted but how the results are interpreted.

And the longer quote from TL's post assumes that DBTs only work on conscious differences. That's the beauty of forced choice--it can work even to the point when the participants aren't at all sure they heard any difference. Or didn't you read what jj has said on this?

But I think TL's post does make some good points about statistics. But then who disagrees with them?
