Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Logic can be a wonderful thing . . .

but not misapplied logic. I have not used a tu quoque argument.

With a sighted audition, one already knows the answers. Calibration is not really possible.

AS
"More precisely what it means is that either there was no audible differences between the two components, or the system failed to reveal the audibles differences between the components or the subjects failed to detect the audible differences between the components. Wow, that's a useful test, not."

A null result shows that the subjects failed to establish that there was an audible difference under the conditions of the test. You got that right. Your other suggestions are merely possible reasons, not demonstrated at all, and you shouldn't list them together. And such a test is far from useless, as it shows the sighted auditions that preceded are unreliable.

On the other hand, a positive result can be useful if one is interested in knowing whether there are audible differences between the DUTs. Sighted tests are worthless for showing there are small audible differences, though they may be useful for training. As well, sighted auditioning can be a way of forming preferences.
