RE: Incredible how much you talk about audio and how little you know about audio

"Hiding brand names does nothing to the sound quality of a component.

Making sure two components do not have different SPLs and different L-R channel balances does nothing to the sound quality in a comparison.
"

Why bring this up? Are you just one big non-sequitor? I ALWAYS level balance my system and set the level between components the same when doing critical testing.

"I have tested my ears over 16 times using blind tests and have been very surprised by how tough it is to hear A-B differences for me"

Key pharse "for me". So what? The studies I have put up have significant correlations between listening and model systems distortions so the "did you hear it or not" is not an issue. Try dealing with the facts of the studies and addressing those directly instead of beating your dead warhorse again. All of this blah blah from you is diversionary tactics from addressing the content of the papers, Richard. Discuss the F*&$(#G papers! If you can't understand them or don't want to then I can't help your obstinance but stop trying to drag this thread through the same old mud. If you need clarification about what the studies are saying then ask. I am debating above with AndyC about the term alpha in the study because it was somewhat confusing as to what it means. Now it is more clear.

"We don't participate in tests with an "all components sound the same attitude" "

No this is what you present on this forum.

"Not true -- I avoid beliefs -- I report test results."
I also do that, from published studies and then try to infer what meaning they have. It is not enough to simply report results.

"Sounds to me like you've never bothered to test your hearing ability, but like to pretend you have golden ears -- I suppose no test could possibly be good enough for you?"

Not true, I have good hearing to 16khz. In addition, I have conducted blind (single blind), level matched tests here between preamps and cables (interconnects) and gotten statistically significant (within the relatively small number of trials of course) results to detecting positive differences.

I have also taken Keith Howard's distortion software and created sound files with distortion patterns I obtained from real world amplifiers (measurements at 1Khz from Soundstage and/or Stereophile). Result? Audible differences compared to the undoctored file and the various "amp models". This was done single blind as well.

"Your post implies you somehow "know" more about my hearing ability than you know about your own."

This is makes no sense and is not implied in any way, sorry to disappoint you.

Now, kindly try for once to address the topic of the articles I posted and leave that poor dead horse alone.
