Of course calibration is required.

The ear-brain system is the key "device" in your "protocol." That device (and don't tell me you don't understand the term) is constantly in change for each individual. If a meter wobbled out of control (was not calibrated) during tests, you wouldn't use it. If ears-brain were not consistent, why would one use them to test anything?

The result is that an audio DBT is nothing more than a time-and-place specific parlour trick.

Do you care to give me real substantive back-up as to why jj is the ultimate authority?
