Bummer...

Thanks for the update. I vaguely remember an exception for self-powered speakers but didn't realize that they had gutted the whole thing.

So I stand corrected. I guess it isn't enough just to not pass any new laws for the common good, we must defang the few we have. Not that the FTC rules were perfect in my book, but you should have seen the morass that existed prior to them. Some of the power ratings on consumer consoles were so extreme all we could figure out was that they were measuring the peak input current while the filaments were cold and caps charging.

You are correct that even the old rules didn't cover all bases, however they leveled the playing field to a large extent and I believe that they provided us with longer lasting, more conservative designs.
