RE: Engineers figured out how to design good voltage multipliers in the 1960's

"Very little progress on audible improvements (versus the best tube amps in the 1960's) since then ... except for whatever boat anchor you own which I'm sure is the best available"


The best tube amps of today have superior output trannies to eliminate most if not all of the "tube" sound. It also relates directly to bass quality (since saturation happens mostly at lower frequencies). The cheap tube amps of today sound much like the old ones because their ouptut trannies saturate...just like in the old days. OTLs also provide superior sound to basically all old tube amps because there is no output tranny.
