Re: There are not enough measurements "to adequately and reliably depict the sonic character of audio components to where it correlates with general aural perception" :

Not true, really. The ongoing work by Olive and Toole has done just that: shown that there is a very high (in some cases even up to 99.5%) correlation between subjective listener preference and certain loudspeaker measurement data obtained in anechoic conditions.

The key data is given by on-axis freq response and directivity index (dispersion characteristics).

The findings were the same regardless of who the listeners were (experienced or "critical" vs. inexperienced listeners, men vs. women), what the speaker placement was like, and what music was played.

In other words, to most listeners it is the most neutral or accurate and least colored speakers that are preferable, and this is so by a clear margin and independently of the speaker setup, room conditions, and the music itself.

Which then means that apparently there are already "enough perspectives covered by available measuring technology to adequately and reliably depict the sonic character of audio components to where it correlates with general aural perception."

KlausR has brought this up in multiple connections.
