RE: A Challenge To Measurements & DBT Proponents

"If you Objectivists really believe in the validity of Measurements & DBT's why not participate in a series of DBT's to see if you can determine which amplifier has the most accurate measurements via DBT's?"

DBTs are unable to resolve "accuracy" in measurements. (The only devices that can resolve this is measuring equipment calibrated to NBS.) They only validate relative differences between items under test, and these tests are independent of "accuracy".

"If you cannot pass this simple test it would seem to imply either:"

DBT is for validating differences by resolving and capturing aural changes, and transcribed to hard data. Not for determining one's ability to hear differences or for parameters other than the aural detection of differences.

"1) Measurements really don't matter much in amp's sonics"

DBTs don't really demonstrate that. Even though I mostly agree with the statement. (I think the estabished measurements have yet to sufficiently depict an amp's performance in a reliable and repeatable manner, to where a listenerwould be confident enough to acquire based on measurements alone. There needs to be more parameters which might in time paint a much better picture of a component's sonic character.)

"OR

"2) DBT's are masking the differences the measurements clearly show exist!"

A critical process in DBT is to make adjustments in the test environment that zero in on any differences that may exist. DBTs only "mask" differences if no effort is put forth to refine the testing. Those misapplying DBT have no such motivation to refine testing because the outcome is **already** satisfactory to them.
