Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Engineers figured out how to design good voltage multipliers in the 1960's

Very little progress on audible improvements (versus the best tube amps in the 1960's) since then ... except for whatever boat anchor you own which I'm sure is the best available.

People have trouble hearing amplifier differences, or report small differences, when brand names are hidden, A-B volumes are matched, and clipping is kept to a minimum.

Those results suggest amplifiers are not very important components in determining overall sound quality (whether an audiophile believes that or not) and suggests most amplifiers have differences in measurements that won't be audible while listening to music (other than the SPL).

Of course blind tests only apply to the people involved -- your results with your stereo may be very different.

The most important measurement with amplifiers seems to be the amount of clipping when driving YOUR speakers at the SPL's YOU prefer
