I think most can understand it better than you do and your comments hardly clarify matters.
Dr. Floyd Toole is quoted as saying:
“The final arbiter of quality is a listening test — but how do we know what caused the sound to be good or bad?â€
So, you can tell how good the sound is by listening--and Dr. Toole's research used double blind tests--but it doesn't tell you what's happening or what to do about it.
The same with Dr. Linkwitz's work on his speakers. He can hear that something could be better but it takes much theory, work, measurements, hypothesizing and testing to figure out what to do about it.
