Steve, I see a point of confusion in what I just stated:
30mV in has NOTHING to do with the level of distortion out. The ST1700B normalizes the gain. -80dB distortion =.01% distortion. This would put out about -30dbV through the distortion output bnc connector on the front panel, and the meter would be at max. The residual is less than this and is typically about -95dB in distortion or about -45dBV from the distortion output jack. This is also about where the null resides, as it is the PRIMARY distortion measurement limitation to the THD system, in this example. The null moves a little, depending on condition of the analyzer, fine adjusting,and input level, but I am concerned about RELATIVE differences, so it doesn't effect my results significantly.
