Not quite

"I think it is impossible to attain an environment for truly objective listening tests."

BassNut:
The proper environment is your own listening room.
No other environment really matters to you.
No matter how perfect the methodology used for a double-blind test done elsewhere, an audiophile who did not participate could claim the results do not apply to his ears and/or his stereo system.
And he could be right.
If there were null results, he could claim nothing at all was proven.
And he would be right.
I have participated in both double and single blind comparisons of audio components. My only conclusion is that A-B differences are frequently "heard" during sighted auditions and frequently not heard during blind auditions. So it seems to me that knowing the brand/model of component being auditioned has an effect on whether people report hearing differences versus a competitive model.

The proper methodology to reduce potential bias from attitudes, beliefs and expectations is blind (with A-B volume matching and/or
left-right channel balancing, if required.)
Single-blind is fine asuming your assistant doesn't make faces or give you any clues as to which component he's connected.

If you audition a borrowed component in your own listening room playing at exactly the same volume as your own component, then only one variable has changed.

If the identities of the two components are hidden,
then your preference can only be based on what you hear.

Whether you compare the two components for one hour, or one day,
or one month, is your choice. If the component is borrowed,
then you may only have a day or two (better than auditioning the component in an audio store with a different stereo system and listening room, not to mention a salesman trying to convince you to buy something)
