Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Listening is very different from wine-tasting, guys...

As long as you don't use enormous levels, the ear recovers in milliseconds.

The taste buds and smell receptors can take from milliseconds to several minutes to "reset".

The two are NOT, repeat NOT equivelent in this sense.

What's more, Hall's level roving experiements, among other things, show very clearly that the ability to switch quickly and cleanly is without a doubt necessary.

You'll have to overturn Hall's work if you want to argue otherwise. I doubt you'll succeed, because the short-term auditory memory involved has a less than 200 millisecond retention period. Once you get beyond that length of time, give or take, you move from partial loudness differences to feature differences, which are considerably less sensitive.
