On the contrary; I would never embrace any theory or opinion that I thought put me at odds with science. I'm trained as a scientist (PhD physics), though I'm currently working as a writer and an editor. One thing scientific training taught me is that science is difficult; establishing even basic facts requires a great deal of care and attention...though the payoff is often great. That means that there is much that is true that science can't establish as true. Beware of those who claim that engineering and--especially--art must conform to the laws of science. They are often people with little scientific knowledge, or naive scientists. Thoughtful scientists realize that science can't explain everything, in the short term, without a hell of a lot more hard work. As a correlary, scientific understanding often follows pragmatic engineering, timewise. You do it because it works; you figure out why later.
