Not really, although quad used the Ortofon cartridge originally, in order to get bandwidth. It has to to with effective tip mass, mostly. Moving coil cartridges have low effective tip mass, moving magnet cartridges originally had mechanical self resonances between 10K-20KHz, which had to be rolled off by the electrical resonance. This is the fundamental reason for 47K, which is the damping for the electrical cartridge resonance, composed of perhaps 100-250pf of cable capacitance and a coil of .5-2H.
