RE: Then this device is tuned for audio-band noise.

Thanks Al - some questions:

Do you know whether anyone has run a swept RF freq through the primary of some PS transformers to see what the actual attenuation is as measured on the secondary side? I'm assuming the transformer would be connected to the AC line for the test so that the core would be magnetized. I'm wondering if there are different levels of attenuation based on the VA rating of the transformer, and if they are different for a low voltage versus HV secondary.

It seems certain that toroids will not perform as well in this test as EI-core xfmrs; in fact, I've seen PP tube amp designs that use AC PS toroids as output transformers, a bad thing obviously. What's your position on toroids in this application?

Does the copper electrostatic shield around the core of the better-made EI transformers reduce RFI on the secondary if that shield is grounded?

unclestu posted a link to the Hagerman site, which has a paper on snubbers that includes some suggestions for a filter that incorporates the inductance of the primary of the PS transformer. Have you tried that?

TIA.
