Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Several times a friend with a Crown T60 (I think) analyzer measured my system.

It look horrible with much comb filtering evident. When we removed several potted plants, it got better. It did sound better then. We tried several other realignments which had some effect on the frequency response flatness. Again it sound better. But it still looked terrible. I said something about it being hopeless and he pulled out many other rooms and measurements he had done. They all were at least as bad as mine. He said, that he had never seen a room or theater that looked very good and centered his criticism on rooms and especially speakers. Later I had the Beauhorn Virtuosos. They looked much better but lacked top and bottom end.

This is why I have little interest in measurements. The technology of speakers and room corrections is limited and we can get little benefit from them. For electronics it is another issue, namely that we cannot measure what is truly important. Even if we had such measures, the existing ones would suggest our ears are more sensitive than the instruments.
