RE: mass reply

Hi
Well, I have had both.
The most recent Tube amplifiers were a pair of Krohn Hite ultra low distortion lab amps, a pair of modified Dynaco MKIII’s, a Mac 240 and a pair of modified EICO hf-50’s.

At the moment, I actually use pro-sound amp’s, a QSC pl236 for the SH-50 full range speakers and a Crest CC4000 to drive the TH-50 subs.
Prior to that I had a Threshold stasis I which when I A / B’d (blind initially) against the pl236 was indistinguishable from the Threshold until the Threshold began to sound like it ran out of gas, a scope revealed instantaneous clipping.

The switch to higher power amplifiers was not something I would have guessed would matter much at home but as the O’scope revealed, instantaneous clipping is inaudible as “clipping” but audible when compared to “without” it, it sounds more dynamic.
I don’t know if you tried any of the sound files on the web site but “dynamics” and stereo image are something I love. Try them with good headphones.

I have to admit there is zero hifi “Glam” factor in pro gear but the stuff does work, some of it is very good.
Best,

Tom
