I find it funny that you call and or condider yourself an engineer. Since an engineer would know that what you said above has everything to do with reliability. Now, if the tubes last as you say, that would be very reliable. But the fact that the unit is down because you have to change tubes (whether scheduled or not) is the primary function that determines realibility.

I actually have one of those cheap chinese tube headphone amps for the office. Using a Denon cd player it was easy to hear the limitations. Just wondering out load if better tubes would help.
