Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

We are talking about different things.

If you can hear the results of thumping the tube in the speakers, then you have a very bad tube.

Any tube has rigid, thin metal parts supported by hard materials. The parts all have their own resonant frequencies. Acoustic stimulation above the resonant frequency will modulate the signal, as it affects the inter-electrode spacings. If the resonant frequencies of all the parts within the tube are ultrasonic, this is not a big problem.

As I said, though, making things bigger and heavier usually results in lowering the resonant frequency. The KR tubes may be of higher quality than the Russian 6AS7 (they damn well better be for the price), but all this means is that they will all have very much the same set of resonant frequencies. I expect these will be lower and thus the tubes will be more likely to exhibit microphonic behavior when used in an audio playback environment.
