"the herd in the narrows" test

Thanks to my architect friend for this phrase, which he uses to describe the congestion one hears with most amps when they try to reproduce loud and complex passages of orchestral and choral music on low-impedance speakers. This is where higher power and low output impedance in the amps becomes critical. Every instrument and singer should be just as distinct in these passages as they are in the quiet ones. If not, the amps are not appropriate to the task.
