Re: If you are still using the Aliante Pinafarina Ones,

Hi Al,

Although I'm sure there's some validity to what you've said. I'm always puzzled how people can make such sweeping statements such as you did, i.e. If you are still using the Aliante Pinafarina Ones, you are missing a lot. Without having actually heard the system.

Many people who actually have heard the "Italian Connection" as I call my system of all Italian components: Mastersound Reference 845/Aliante Pinafarina One/Bluenote Stibbert tell me it was the closest to replicating live music they've ever heard. One was a recording engineer, another was an amp designer and the other owned Conrad Johnsons ART preamp, Premier 140 power amp and top-of-the line Dunlavy speakers.

To my and many others opinion, this setup produces a rendition of voices in good recordings that was the closest to live that we've ever heard. Just like when you used the Gilmore Audio Raptor switching amps. This of course is just a result of how well thought out and implemented the Aliante Pinafarina One design is.

I've not heard Kara Chaffee's GM-70 amps, but I have heard the deHaviland 845 monoblocks. So out of the 2 deHavilands I have no idea which I would prefer. I can tell that IMHO the Mastersound Reference 845 is considerably better than the deHaviland 845 monoblocks at replicating music!

Al I appreciate your comments but they have very little to do with the topic of Why SETs? Or how SETs can in some systems actually produce less distortion that a solid state amp. In any event Al, keep enjoying the music and have a great holiday.
