Re: I Have to Say....

It's interesting that electrical engineers are highly schooled in the area of electromagnetic field theory but when they design loudspeakers, they generally completely fail to consider that they are dealing with acoustical fields which are also very complicated and germaine to solving their problem. It's as though unless someone defines the task for them in a specific manner, they choose an existing simplistic paradyme and use it exclusively trying to achieve perfection of an imperfect idea. No matter how well a woofer/tweeter/and possibly midrange driver perform in tests, they cannot usually produce sound which resembles actual music to most listeners, not when they are listening critically. It's as though the engineers switched their brains off. The actual solution requires going back to the original goal which requires understanding the way musical instruments propagate sound, how real rooms affect it, and what the result is when it reaches your ears. NOBODY seems to do that. This is proof that real research in advancing the state of the art by competent scientists and engineers no longer happens. The universal efforts are by people who can only be termed dead heads who are content to tread the same worn rutted path others have gone down before. And judging from the accolades of reviewers and audiophiles alike, they are largely content with the mediocre results. I for one am not. I don't just march to the sound of a different drummer, I've got my own drum.
