There are several tangents to this thread. The main tangent is the feedback discussion including TIM. Another tangent is a discussion of the "superlinear cathode follower". It turns out this topology surfaced in the late '50s. Then there was some discussion about the need to limit the AC swing to a small region of the transfer function. This led to a general discussion of CC and/or cascode followers, which led to the simulation of the Sziklai, etc. We found that the more complicated followers had better linearity but tended to be unstable. This led to the Hawksford cascode as a possible solution.
