"Does that render you immune to cognitive biases in respect of audio? if not, how do you address these biases when performing listening tests?"
Listening tests performed over months...Pavlov's dog eventually stopped salivating at the sound of a bell when it wasn't reinforced periodically, same with audio. Your bias will only hold up so long in the face of what you are really hearing. A Placebo might make you think you are better...for a while but it won't cure that cancer.
Also, an open mindedness to the fact that biases, based on previous experience, do exist. For example, I now have a bias against Class D amplifiers but this was not originally the case. I was originally fascinated with the concept and thought it was a quite clever idea from a technical standpoint, ie. I was positively biased to accept the new technology. Then I heard one...and was disappointed with the sound. Then another and another and another, all giving the same disappointing sound. Now I am inclined to think that there is a serious problem with this technology that hasn't yet been solved. I even have owned two differnt Class D amps, and then sold them again after some months of trying to like them. It takes time and a lot of listening to reach such conclusions. Fast tests only give the outlines of a sound and not always what the long term conclusion will be. This is why when I review I keep a piece for at least 2-3 months of regular use and multiple comparisons on multiple days (also, morning and evening as I have noticed a difference...either in the electricity in my apartment or in my mental state, either way there is a difference).
