"Think about it, let's say that you have a tube with a cathode bias resistor. Should you bypass it or not? Caps are generally lousy, but higher order distortion will be generated by the resistor interacting with the 2'nd harmonic generated by the tube. Tough call. "One solution to this(that I have tried) is to apply the negative bias to the grid, rather than apply positive bias to the cathode by means of the bypassed cathode-resistor.
