It's actually the opposite. People have recognized that taking a contrary view...loudly...will get them recognized, and hence, the plethora of noisy and mean-spirited television programming, magazine articles and Internet gibberish. Is Stereophile politically correct? I don't know, nor do I care. I let my subscription lapse when, as a DIY'er, the lack of technical savvy by the reviewers became so glaring that I couldn't concentrate on the subject matter. Toward the end, I only viewed it as eye candy ( a sort of sales brochure for thoughtless M.D.'s and lawyers).
...never much cared for Holt's writing persona. He and Harry Pearson were two peas from the same pod...that exploded from trying to house two huge egos.
All I want is for Art Dudley to bring back "The Listener". At least one knew that audio was a hobby, Art wasn't bought and paid for, and no pretense of technical analysis was foisted on the reader. It was a fun read even if I didn't believe half of what I read.
