Small active monitors in the $500 range

Can anyone reccomend a pair of good small/medium sized monitors in the $500 range? Im putting together a high quality music system for my PC. Ive looked at some of the speakers made for computers and most of them really sound like crap. So many people have reccomended going with an active studio monitor instead of a computer speaker. i ended up buying the M-audi Studiopro4 to hold me over til I could get something better. And I am now ready to upgrade to something bigger/better. The soundcard is an M-audio Audiophile 24/192. I wont be doing any recording or mixing, I just want the best sounding speakers I can get for $500. I listen to rock and electronic mostly. There seems to be a ton of small and mid sized monitorts out there for around $400-600 and I really donno where to start. Its hard to audition because places like Guitar Center and Sam Ash have them setup in very noisy rooms and connected to crappy equipment. Heres a few ive been looking at.

Event TR6
Tannoy Reveal
Alesis m1
Samson r6a
Blue Sky MediaDesk 2.1

So there are a ton of options I have, Im just not sure how rto narrow down the feild. Im hoping to get a few opinions from you guys to help narrow it down a bit. I know Yamaha and Tannoy are very well respected brands in the pro market but the others im not so familiar with. Any ideas?
thanks
Frank
