I wasn't referring to CPlay as being the ultimate in playback because of its memory play feature. In fact, I find the pauses between tracks kind of annoying when listening to certain recordings. My note was meant to point out that the internal process for playing FLAC vs WAV via CPlay is similar, and that I could not hear differences between them while using CPlay.
In any event, as far as I understand the architecture, there is no way to avoid RAM in computer audio playback.
What does "edge triggered" mean?
