PC based music server

Hope to get a little clarity on the subject...I wanted to use an older PC as a dedicated music server. I already have Lynx L22 card from my VRS Audio that finally gave up its ghost so that issue is settled. I also have DEQX 2.6 which I intend to use in the setup. Now, I understand that playing only music doesn't require a really fast PC. I also understand that a single core, say, 2.2Ghz PC is/can be faster than 3Ghz dual core computer because, in reality, 3Ghz consist of two 1.5 Ghz processors and the second core may never get engaged. So I thought of getting a mini tower PC, plugging my Lynx L22, maybe have a computer wizz do a little tweaking a la disabling some of the features that aren't needed for music playback and off we go. Am I on the right track? Any advice as to what system/components to look for and what to avoid? How important is it to get 64 bit vs 32 bit system? Yes, I know I could spend couple thousand $$ and get a superb player, but that's not the idea - I was hoping to accomplish everything within $200-300, or thereabouts. Unrealistic?
