the major labels probably perceive that there is no viable market for hirez multi-ch music, in any format. Apart perhaps for concert video.
can't blame them. they tried multiple times (quad, sacd, dvd-audio) and none of those formats have caught on.
Of those formats, the most successful is arguably SA-CD, in that boutique labels are still releasing discs. Unfortunately that is the one format which still remains secure, because Sony was clever enough to make the discs unreadable on PC optical drives.
