Hi Bob,
I tried a number of the apps you suggested and thought I'd pass back what I'd found.
Gleetchlab has changed and the latest version is no longer free. It cannot be used as a plugin, but I guess one might rewire to it using Jack or Audio Hijack Pro. You can't save settings in between sessions as the author believes that stifles creativity. All in all, while an interesting program, it is not suited for digital room correction.
SIR2 seems to use an IR format I am not familiar with. I could not get it to convolve with the PCM filters I generated from DRC nor did it work when I exported those filters to the aiff format.
Mellowmuse IR1A works fine but requires the IR file format to be stereo aiff. This is not a problem because Audacity can be used to create a stereo file out of the mono raw PCM files that DRC produces, and that can then be exported to a 16 or 32 bit aiff file that works in IR1A. Its hard to judge the sound quality of IR1A because the demo program adds silence at periodic intervals.
I'm not sure the convolver in Bias Peak Pro can be used as an AU plugin, but I wouldn't pay 600.00 just to use the convolver feature.
I installed Jack OSX and it works fine, although I haven't compared it back and forth with the standard output for Pure Music so I can't say if it is transparent sounding at this point. Still, it supports HOG mode like PM does, and I haven't heard any glitches when using it.
Last night I downloaded and installed Fink in order to get JConv. JConv is only in the unstable tree, and had to be built from sources. The process took quite a while only to find out that I need the IR filters in mono WAV format. Tonight I'll convert my filters to the proper format and see how it works. Interestingly, Jconv does not act as a plugin either, but has to run stand alone via a configuration file and then get routed via Jack OSX.
So, by far the easiest manner of convolving on the MAC would be to buy Mellowmuse IR1A and use it as an AU plugin inside of Pure Music. I tried IR1A with Sbooth's Play, but Play won't show the AU plugin's interface, so there is no manner to load the proper IR filter. I can't speak to the quality of IR1A at this point, except to say that it sounds different than Brutefir and Convolver VST. I imagine, that since there is no lag time in processing, it is using IIR instead of FIR processing.
Tonight I'll fool with JConv.
Alan
