My perception of the changes is rather different than yours. I think that you were already present when I started reading posts on this forum 4+ years ago. I got some good practical information on software such as rippers, tag editors and players and about hardware such as soundcards. I understood more about choices because of your posts about the Lynx card and Christine's posts about the E-MU cards. (If I had been willing to spend the money, I would probably have bought a Lynx card then.)
It is hard to have a similar discussion of practical issues here now. It is even harder to have a discussion of technology without people being offended by the idea that the equipment they own might have theoretical shortcomings.
The air here is certainly thick with PC audio buzzwords now. I'm not sure that the use of those buzzwords always reflects any deep understanding of the underlying technology.
You are a committed member of the cics camp. All those tweaks are on the computer side and involve computer talk but you seem happy with the results. Are you uncomfortable with the technical discussions in the cics threads?

What's wrong with that? There are plenty of people who want better sound but have no hope of spending $ 60K+ on a pair of Wilson speakers or even $ 5,000 on the DAC of the month.
There are other people who might be able to afford at least the entry level of gear you can brag about here but who balance a number of priorities in their lives.
Sometimes I'm in the "can't afford it" category. Sometimes I'm in the "balance of priorities" group.
I am usually looking for information on getting good value for my money. I'm a "buy and hold" guy when it comes to audio purchases. I want to make sizable audio gear purchases carefully and as infrequently as possible. I have no intention of buying a different DAC every few months. It seems to me that this forum has far more posts by the "day trader" sort of audiophiles than by people like me.
My memory is that you have owned the same panel speakers for some time now and that they are not the top of the line. That suggests to me that you take a rather pragmatic approach to speakers. I'd guess that you like what you have and consider that your speakers give you good results. Some people approach PC audio that way.
I'm rather offended by the people who consider that this forum is their property and that only threads about "best sound" are proper.
