RE: Newbie, file format & EAC help

1) Most rip to lossless formats like FLAC or AIFF as WAV does not support tagging. Note that compression does not (as far as the bits go) mean that information is lost as it will be uncompressed by the codec before being played.

2) Most rip to individual tracks so they can be played individually (I don't know if all common players understand CUE as I don't use them so can't comment if the same can be achieved with 1 big file + CUE). The directory structure can be used to keep the tracks of albums together (1 directory per artist, then subdirectory for each album of that artist). I can imagine it useful for live performances and such, but some players support gap-less playback to achieve the same.

3) Can't comment on EAC as I don't use it, but at least make sure you use AccurateRip and SecureRip to ensure you get a bitperfect copy. You may want to have a read of this: http://www.teqnilogik.com/tutorials/eac.shtml
