*** Most people are using the rt-kernel because of JACK. It allows to handle different sources in realtime at lowest latencies without running into XRUNS. No Windows system can match this functionality. ***
Not true. The NT kernel has been realtime since day 1. Vista adds a new multimedia class scheduler.
On a properly configured Windows system configured as a DAW, there should be absolutely no issues achieving sub 5ms latencies.
I like open source, but at this stage everything is still too immature for me to consider running my DAW on Linux. I need support for 32 and 64 bit VSTs (or at least the Mac equivalent) - I have thousands of dollars invested in VSTs that have no equivalent on Linux.
