Has anyone tested various types of software equalizers?

Hi,

I am curious to know if anyone has done any testing of different styles of parametric software equalizers. I am interested in them only to lessen room node peaks in the bass region.

It seems to me that traditional software filters that effect phase can possibly negatively affect transients in the area where EQ is applied. However, linear phase equalizers can supposedly have negative consequences due to pre-ringing and post-ringing.

If anyone has compared different styles (traditional, linear phase, FIR, IIR), could you let me know which you found to sound more transparent? If you have any recommendations for a good software parametric EQ (VST format), I'd be interested in hearing them also.

Thanks,
Alan
