CD/ DVD writing software : Fed up with fuzzy bear wizard advert programme

Mates,

I've made at least 600-700 CD-R's and perhaps 50 DVD's and have never liked the writing software: I hate the silly 1955 Cadillac dashboard interface of Nero 7, having to choose from 10 applications that work off of icons of tools and discs etc. Finding the settings for writing speed- I always burn at 2 or 3 steps below maximum- is a game I often lose. And, Nero finds ways to throw upgrade demands and will almost not let me exit the application- it keeps going to other windows rather than shutting down.

And, I'm annoyed doubly at the moment as I tried to install Nero 7 on my new HP 2.4 quad core, 8GB RAM / Vista 64-bit computer and not only would it not install, but because the attempted installation was corrupted, neither the Nero uninstall Vista removal can get it all off- I removed files manually, but the .DLL's are still in there and I really never like going into the dangerous world of regedit and so on. Of course, I should have looked into it, but I assumed that Vista 64 would run any XP 32-bit software.

This has been an annoyance for a long time- Nero especially tries to make the burning software into a bloated 400MB in-your-face goofiness application. Can you recommend a direct, non-fuzzy bear wizard CD/DVD writing programme? A clear and simple control interface made for adults?

I'm trying to optimize the new computer to run, record, and write CD's using Hauptwerk 3 virtual organ software, and the CD-making is an essential (but frustrating) part.
