RE: 44.1 kHz shown scientifically to be inadequate

There are people I trust who are absolutely convinced that hi-rez is a big step up from redbook. Still, knowing that I have a hard drive full of redbook files and that the body of music I'm interested in that is available on hi-rez is quite small, I'll probably not wade through that report. Can anyone tell me this much...

"The first group does not seem to conduct controlled blind tests of publishable standards (of all the JAES papers I read on this subject, I didn't find a single one that reported controlled listening tests)."

...did this study conduct controlled listening tests? Because if it did not, it's likely we're still in a gray area somewhere between theory and speculation that might mean nothing, or very little, in practical human application. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of better fidelity, but whenever I've listened to exactly the same master at standard and higher resolutions, "better" hasn't been at all clear.

Also, I'm not doubting him when he said he hadn't read a single JAES paper that reported controlled listening tests, but evidently he missed this issue:

http://www.aes.org/e-lib/browse.cfm?elib=14195

...which compares SACD and DVD-A to redbook in hundreds of blind listening tests conducted over nearly a year.
