"It's not really that obvious"

There is certainly a difference between acknowledging the compromises and limitations of a particular format and declaring it to be unfit. I wasn't doing the latter. I've heard many CDs that sound wonderful (just as I've heard many LPs that are enjoyable.)

When an LP or CD sounds poor, it is far more a failure of those involved in the production to take advantage of what is possible than anything inherent to the format itself. While technology will march on, I can state with great certainty that there will be no shortage of hi-rez releases that are so poor that people will wonder "what were they thinking...."
